Charging Issues

Wireless charging is slower than plugged-in charging.

Wireless charging is typically slower than plugging your phone in, which is standard for all devices. However, the purpose of wireless charging is convenience.

However, there are a few tips and tricks to maximize your wireless charging speed:
  • Remove any cases or objects connected to the back of your phone.
  • Ensure there is no direct sunlight on the wireless charging surface.
  • Wireless charging works best in normal indoor temperatures, we like to suggest the room temperature is below 75F.
  • If you feel the charging speed is slower than it should be, please [visit our Troubleshooting Guide] or [contact our support team].
  • If you have an iPhone, go to your phone’s settings > battery > charging, and turn off ‘Optimized Battery Charging’ and ‘Clean Energy Charging’,  and ensure you have no ‘Charge Limit’ set on your phone.

My phone isn’t charging

Many things can contribute to a phone not charging. Sometimes, your phone may not have wireless charging capabilities; there might be a case blocking the wireless power or other conditions. Here is a list of the most common reasons your phone may not be charging:
  • Check your phone's capabilities. Your phone may not have wireless charging capabilities; review our [list of compatible devices] to confirm.
  • Make sure your case isn’t blocking the wireless power. Your phone may have a case that blocks wireless power. Ensure no credit cards, metal plates, or other metal objects are between your phone and the wireless charging surface.
  • Make sure your phone isn’t raised too far off the surface. Your phone may have a pop socket or a thick case that raises it too far away from the wireless charging surface. Try removing the case or popping the socket to see if it works.
  • Make sure there is no sunlight or a room that is too warm. If you attempt to charge in a warm room, near a heat-generating appliance, or in direct sunlight, your phone will likely not charge.

My phone is stuck at 80%

All smartphones follow a battery safety protocol that limits temperature while charging based on the battery's percentage. The result of this protocol is that if your phone is below 80% while charging, it can be warmer than if it’s above 80%. If your phone is charging, when it gets to 80%, it will often slow down the amount of power it’s drawing from the charger to reduce its temperature. This can take several minutes, and in some cases, if the room is too warm, there’s direct sunlight, or the phone cannot cool down, the phone will never cool down enough to begin charging.

If you feel your phone is getting stuck at 80%, try to ensure there is no direct sunlight or heat-generating appliances nearby, that the room temperature is below 75F, and that there are no large cases on your phone.

If you have an iPhone, you may have battery optimization settings on that can also cause your phone to stop at 80%. Go to your phone’s settings > battery > charging, and turn off ‘Optimized Battery Charging’ and ‘Clean Energy Charging’, and ensure you have no ‘Charge Limit’ set on your phone.

After reading through this, if you still feel you are experiencing an issue, please [contact our support team]

Warm Phone

Your phone will get warm; this is normal and nothing to worry about as it happens with all wireless charging. Even when you plug in, you might not notice your device getting as warm, it just is more noticeable with a wireless charger..

If you are concerned that your phone is getting warmer than it should, please [visit our Troubleshooting Guide] or [contact our support team]

LED Charging Halo™

Our proprietary LED Charging Halo™ will not work with non-translucent materials.
The proprietary LED Charging Halo™ is an iconic feature of FreePower that indicates the charging zone in a very functional and cool way. However, materials differ in translucency, and may not be translucent. In some cases, material translucency will vary across a single piece of stone, leaving for a bright glow in one section and a dim or even no glow in another.

To learn more about material translucency, [visit our Material Database].

If you’d like to test a material's translucency, you can [review our Translucency Testing Guidelines].

FreePower is releasing alternative options to the Charging Halo™ glow in early 2025. If you are experiencing issues with the glow on a FreePower charger that’s already been installed, please [contact our support team], and we can help you get an alternative option as soon as it’s available.

Surface Care

Avoid placing heavy or hot objects on or around the wireless charging surface.

FreePower is installed into the stone by a Certified Fabricator. During installation, the stone is modified to mount the charger. Do not place any heavy or hot objects on or around the charging area to protect the modified stone and the electronics within the charger.
Avoid placing metal objects on or around the wireless charging surface.
Placing metal objects over the FreePower wireless charging surface is perfectly safe. However, the wireless charger will not work if a metal object is placed between the wireless charging surface and your phone. To avoid issues where a phone is put down and doesn’t charge, avoid placing metal objects over the FreePower wireless charging surface.

Cleaning

You can clean your countertop and spill liquids over it with no issues. FreePower is embedded beneath the surface, meaning your countertop can still work like a countertop. You can clean it, spill food and drinks, and wipe it with any cleaning solution. Wireless power can transmit safely through liquids, so even if there’s a spill, you don’t have anything to be concerned about.
